Last Friday one of the girls favourite days of the year once again rolled around – the annual Cake Sale and Monster Raffle! The halla was packed full of delicious goodies that the girls and their parents had brought in for the sale. Everyone went home with full tummies and smiles of their faces. ( and many many prizes were won – over 80 in total!!!)

I know it is a very important fundraising event in the PA’s calendar but it is much more than that, it is a day that celebrates the school community in a vibrant, inclusive and hugely enjoyable way.

We would also like to say a huge thank you to our sponsors

Both Ms. O’Brien’s and Ms.Mills’ second class put on a wonderful display of Irish dancing on Wednesday in the school hall in front of a packed audience!

The girls skilfully danced and showed off the steps they have learned under the guidance of their dance teachers Amal and Mariam El badri. Irish dancing lessons take place every Wednesday. Well done to all the girls and teachers involved! Special thanks to Ellie in 4th class who performed with the girls!

April Evening of Music,Drama and Dance!

This year St Colmcille’s GNS are very happy to announce that we will hold an evening of music, drama and dance from Second Class upwards. This will take place in April, over two evenings, and will showcase the fabulous talent of our students (exact dates/venue and further information closer to the schedule).

This will be our main drama event this year. It will require huge in-class preparation by teachers and students. Therefore, please note the changes to our regular Christmas concert schedule below.

  • Junior Infants to First Class inclusive will hold a Christmas Concert for the parents as normal.
  • Children taking part in our April Drama Evening (i.e those from Second Class upwards) will hold a low key in-school Christmas concert. Please note that this concert is for students only.

I thank you for your cooperation and look forward to welcoming you to our first ever evening drama extravaganza in April!

Thank You!

A huge thank you to all our lovely parents who sent in donations to our Aistear Equipment Drive!

We are happy to say that your generosity has had an immediate effect as our Junior and Senior Infants are getting stuck in learning through play.

Thank you from all of us!

Gym Week

It’s gym week at St.Colmcille’s GNS and under the watchful eyes of our teachers, children have been stretching, rolling, twisting and exercising and enjoying every minute of their class!

Throughout the week students learn to control their bodies while moving in many different ways.

Children learn that the strength, flexibility and balance that they  gain from working on gymnastics skills will transfer easily to every other sport they might want to pursue.

Parent/Teacher Meetings

This year Parent Teacher Meetings will take place on the 15th and 22nd of November to discuss children’s progress. These take place before or after the school day by prearranged appointment at a time that is mutually convenient.

Positive parent-teacher relationships and open two way communication between teachers and parents contribute to the positive attitudes and high standards of our pupils in St. Colmcille’s GNS.

At any stage during the school year, parents may make an appointment if they need to speak to a teacher. An appointment can also be made to see the Principal at a mutually convenient time.

It is based on positive role models, repeated tasting and rewards and being offered a wide range of fruit and vegetables each day. After these 16 days of fruit and veg. tasting the children will be encouraged to bring at least 1 fruit and 1 vegetable to school with them everyday from home, please continue to encourage your child to eat healthily and their bodies will reap the rewards.
