Mission Statement

Our mission in St. Colmcille’s Girls’ N.S. is to create a happy, caring and secure atmosphere. In this structured environment the vision of the school is to identify and address the academic, spiritual, physical, moral, social and cultural needs of all the pupils.

St. Colmcille’s Girls’ N.S. will strive to provide support for the professional and personal development of the teachers. We will involve the parents and the wider school community in the fulfilment of our mission.

 

Our School

Saint Colmcille’s Girls’ National School is situated in Chapel Lane, in Swords , County Dublin, Ireland.
It caters for girls aged between 4 and 13. At present, there are 422 girls on roll with a staff of 22 teachers and 6 ancillary staff.
Our school offers an excellent opportunity for all pupils to enjoy their primary education in a friendly, welcoming and pupil-centred atmosphere. We cultivate an environment that is conducive to learning and encourages pupils to achieve their full potential. We pride ourselves in valuing and treating each individual pupil equally. We are closely connected to the local community and have excellent relationship with all the partners.

A wide variety of subjects are taught in our school including Irish, English, Maths, History, Geography, Science, Religion, Art, Music, Social, Personal and Health Education, Speech and Drama, Dancing, Computers and Physical Education.
Each of our sixteen classrooms is fitted with an Interactive Whiteboard. We have a fully equipped computer room, in which all classes are taught IT skills.
Our pupils also enjoy their weekly visit to the school library, from which they may borrow books to use in class and also to enjoy at home.

There are also many extra activities organised to enhance our pupil’s learning experience.
E.g.
Excursions:Trips to the theatre, to concerts, educational tours.
Culture:Visiting theatre companies, authors, artists and musicians.
Visitors: Local Garda, vet and other members from our community.
Choir: Involvement in Sunday Masses and School Masses.
Instrumental Music: Recorder, Tin whistle, Guitar.
Quizzes and Competitions: Credit Union, Art, Poetry, Handwriting etc.
Sport: Swimming for 3rd – 6th classes, Gaelic Football Competitions, Fingal Cross Country League, Olympic Handball (former All-Ireland Medal winners).
Specialised Teachers:Violin,  Speech and Drama, Chess, Dancing (Irish and Modern), Basketball and Football coaching,.
Focus Weeks: Healthy Eating, Anti-Bullying, Fire Safety, Gymnastics, Seachtain na Gaeilge, International Week etc.
