We would like to wish all our school community a very happy and peaceful Christmas with some very special times together.
Here is a link to soundcloud to hear our fabulous Do This in Memory Choir perform. These girls meet every Wednesday after school to practise and provide the angelic voices for our Do This in Memory masses. Very many thanks to Mary, Sr Margaret and Alan for all the wonderful work they do in preparing the girls!
On Monday, the girls from 4th, 5th and 6th classes performed in our annual Christmas Violin Recital to a packed house! The standard of performance on display was very high as the girls have been learning a lot since September. They showcased skills such as how to hold the violin and bow, how to read music, how to pluck and bow the strings and how to play accompanied by a piano track. Our school string orchestra treated us to a festive performance on strings and cello towards the end. Everyone agreed it was a resounding success and we look forward to the next performance from our fantastic musicians! Many thanks to Ms Kirkan and Ms. O’Brien for preparing and supporting the girls.
There has always been a proud tradition of Irish Dancing in St. Colmcille’s G N.S. and we are delighted that this tradition is being well and truly maintained by our present fabulous dancers.
Yesterday was a wonderful opportunity for Ms Ahern and Ms Campbell’s first classes to showcase the progress they have made and perform for their parents in the school hall. Everyone was very impressed with the skills and talent on display.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Maryam and Amal from the Elbadri school of Irish Dancing for the superb work they do with the girls and for the support of the classroom teachers who continue to build on this during sports lessons. We would also like to thank Ellie from Ms O’Connell’s class who performed fantastically during the interval. Well done to all the girls – Riverdance watch out!!
The annual Carol Service and readings takes place on Sunday 11th December at 4pm in St Colmcille’s Church. Our girls will be performing! Thanks to Ms Keenan, Ms Downey and Ms Campbell for preparing the girls!
Yesterday we held our annual school table quiz for children from 3rd class to 6th. This involves mixing up the age groups and working as a team – something that all the girls really enjoy. After some serious competition with some very tight scoring margins, we have our winners!
1st prize : Team 20 : Dayna, Orla G, Chloe E and Evita
2nd prize: Team 28: Abbey B, Béibhinn, Lucia and Emily
3rd prize: Team 24: Althea , Jasmin L, Zofia and Hannah D
Well done to all the girls and thanks to Ms Daly for organising this much anticipated event!
Newsflash: We are officially bookworms! Since the children have returned to school after the midterm break, we have not only reached our target of reading 1916 books – we have exceeded beyond measure. Four weeks in and we have read close to 4,000 books. We have had wonderful conversations about what we read, we have made recommendations to our friends and inspired others to read books they may never have considered. All classes have been rewarded with special journals to note any inspirations they had while reading – and these journals are shared among classes so we can all be challenged and inspired! We have had such fun along the way that we are not really ready for the Reading Revolution to end! We hope all the girls continue to read at home and continue to talk about books. Well done to all the girls and to their teachers and parents for all the encouragement.
The excitement was palpable from early morning as queues formed to buy raffle tickets and busy children helped their parents drop off freshly baked goods. As the sweet smells wafted down the hall, our busy parent ‘elves’ put the finishing touches to the beautifully decorated tables. It was a wonderfully successful day. I know it is a very important fundraising event in the PA’s calendar but it is much more than that, it is a day that celebrates the school community in a vibrant, inclusive and hugely enjoyable way.
