It’s the longest day of the year and here at St.Colmcille’s GNS we are celebrating the Summer Solstice!
The importance of Summer Solstice ties back to ancient Celtic society’s reliance on agriculture and crops. The reliance on and appreciation for the sun is what brought people closer to nature and furthered the understanding of the environment. Through suffering and hardships during the winter months, the Solstice became an important celebration for success and ease during the summer.
Drumming has a very calming effect on the earth and as an instrument crosses time and cultures. Today we drummed as a class – we drummed as a school community, rooting ourselves in the present but firmly resonating with the past. Happy holidays to all!
The Parent’s Association invite you to a talk on Transition to Secondary School on Tuesday, June 13th at 7.30pm in our school hall.
This talk will be of particular relevance to parents of children in 5th and 6th classes! Hope to see a lot of you there!
