Today we celebrated the 6000+ languages spoken around the world and the 43 languages spoken at St.Colmcille’s GNS with a fantastic assembly organised by our amazing fifth class girls. Alifah introduced the assembly to the whole school.
We celebrated the power of multilingualism through fashion, food, poetry and music. Our assembly started with a fashion show from a selection of countries with girls wearing their traditional outfits. Diana was a fantastic MC for the event!
Aamna introduced our food tasting session and invited hungry teachers to savour some delicacies – all agreed the food was really good. Some children joined in the food tasting also. It certainly was a popular event.
We had songs from Nigeria, The Philippines, Russia and Latvia. We had poetry from Spain.
Ms Burke Logue thanked all the girls for their hard work in organising such a successful event and to Ms Ahern and Ms Deegan for helping to put together a beautiful display in the foyer.
We are so excited to have our 6th class girls participate for the first time ever in Marathon Kids. This is an 8 week running programme in partnership with Fingal County Council and Dublin City Council. The aim of the programme is to inspire children to run; and over eight weeks to accumulate the equivalent distance of a Marathon!
Students will perform four running sessions in school every week for eight weeks – inching them closer to completing their first marathon as well as learning about the benefits of physical activity. There will also be a SPHE (Social, Personal and Health Education) element to each lesson where the girls will learn about human physiology, diet and the benefits of physical activity. Please read all about it here: http://marathonkidsireland.ie/
All participating students will be invited to a Final Mile Event and celebration at a Dublin running venue. An information leaflet will follow closer to the mid-term break once venue and details are confirmed.
We wish our girls luck !!!
